How to Use Narcan (Naloxone)

Narcan saves lives. It's a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose - including fentanyl.

If someone is:

  • Not breathing or gasping for air

  • Unresponsive

  • Has blue or gray lips or fingertips

  • Making gurgling noises

Here's what to do:

  1. Call 911

  2. Tilt their head back

  3. Spray Narcan into one nostril

  4. Wait 2-4 minutes

  5. If no response, give a second dose

  6. Keep them on their side and stay with them until help arrives.

Narcan is safe. You can't hurt someone by using it - even if they didn't take opioids.
*Ohio's Good Samaritan Law protects you.
You cannot be arrested for calling 911 or using Narcan to help someone.

  • "I heard fentanyl is showing up in more stuff. Please be safe."

  • "If you ever need Narcan, I have some. No judgment."
